ONONDAGA CO. -- The recent rains have prompted Onondaga County's Sheriff to urge boaters to use caution while out on the water.

"Although it is still early in the boating season, fishermen and those looking to get an early start to summer need to exercise extreme caution while on our waterways."

Boaters are encouraged to use extreme caution when traveling Onondaga County waterways, looking out for floating debris that can present potential dangers. It is also suggested that boaters adhere to a 'No Wake' rule along the Oneida and Seneca Rivers as well as the shorelines of our lakes and reservoirs.

Members of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Aviation and Navigation Units continue to monitor the situation over the next week.

Meanwhile, Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd has issued an advisory for Oneida Lake due to heavy rainfall this week. The Sheriff says the high waters may cause dangerous conditions including floating debris and fast moving currents.

“Be extremely careful if venturing onto the lake and be courteous to people’s property," Sheriff Todd said. "Safety first should always be foremost in everyone’s mind.”
