SYRACUSE -- If you've driven on Richmond Avenue in Syracuse recently, there's no doubt you've seen the giant sinkhole that opened up.

Syracuse Department of Public Works crews tell CNY Central that the sinkhole is the result of a sewer line collapse.

The hole is located right near the Frazer School, between West Genesee Street and Erie Boulevard on the city's near west side. It first became noticeable last night.

The department says it is working to get minimal flow through the line to avoid sewage backups. They say they will repair it as soon as they can assess the extent of the damage.

Crews say the sinkhole is due to a storm-related failure.
