SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse man is facing charges, accused of threatening people with a loaded gun.

Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police were called to 272 Taft Avenue for a report of a man with a gun. Police say 24-year-old Eljae Hill, of 107 Mariposa Avenue, was threatening people with the gun, then took off.

Police say the trouble started earlier in the night when one woman got into a fight with Hill, then heard him banging at her front door and demanding money he was owed. One woman in the house says she threw down $400 and told him to leave. Hill then allegedly pulled out a handgun, threatening her with it and then left.

Police later pulled Hill over on Shotwell Park and took him into custody. Police say the recovered a loaded Highpoint handgun, marijuana, crack cocaine and an open bottle of beer.

Police say Hill told officers he tried to commit suicide when he realized police were following him, but couldn't get the safety off the gun.

He's now charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana and an open container. He has two prior felony convictions.

Hill was arraigned in Syracuse City Court and is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
