FAYETTEVILLE -- Almost a year later, the near $6.4 million Fayetteville Fire House is almost complete and Village Mayor Mark Olson says it's right on budget too.

Right now, work crews are putting the finishing touches on the state of the art facility. It's located right in the center of the village on the same ground as the old firehouse. The mayor says this location is critical for response times.

The village is working to get the facility Leed certified and the energy efficient upgrades will help save taxpayers money down the road.

The new fire house also has a lot more space enough to hold all the necessary equipment. Olson says the old building couldn't accommodate all the apparatus so some of it had to be stored elsewhere, like the DPW garage

This building also has a number of new community spaces including one room, with a piece of the world trade center in it.

"We want to bring the community into this fire house," said Olson. "It's their fire house." Olson adds there is even a command post upstairs that officials could run the village out of, if there was ever an emergency.

The public will have it's first chance to look inside the new fire house Saturday, May 14th from 6 to 8 pm at the Firefighters Gala. You do have to RSVP for the event.

The department will start operating out of the new facility May 23rd.
