SYRACUSE -- The Food Bank of Central New York is starting a new chapter trying to meet the growing needs of the area.  A new food distribution center was opned by local lawmakers and the charity.

The 74,000 square foot facility will help the organization service its 11 county district. The new space allows the Food Bank to accept unprecedented amounts of USDA Commodities, and other large volume donation offers.

It took $5 million to renovate the distribution center.  Kathleen Stress, the food bank's Director of Internal Operations says, "I think we are prepared for the next 25 years. We have enough dry storage space and the offices are equipped for our staff."

The Food Bank of Central New York runs 277 emergency food programs and get 70% of their supplies from the distribution center.
