MINETTO, OSWEGO CO. -- An Oswego man was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash late last week, which police say was caused by a teenage driver distracted by a text message.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office tells CNY Central that on May 20 54-year-old Anthony J. DeSantis of County Route 7 in Oswego was reportedly driving his 1980 Kawasaki motorcycle north on State Route 48 in Minetto. Police say he was struck by a 2002 Mitsubishi driven by 18-year-old Ashley B. Yarman of Birch Lane in Oswego, who allegedly crossed the center line and ran into DeSantis. Yarman’s car went off of the road and over an embankment, landing partially submerged in the nearby Oswego River. DeSantis was thrown off of his bike and landed in the roadway.
DeSantis was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
Yarman was ticketed for failure to keep right after police say she was distracted by a text message. Police also say Yarman was looking for something to write with when she allegedly ran into DeSantis.
