Rome man accused of breaking into house, attacking woman for drugs

UTICA -- An Oneida County man is under arrest after police say he attacked a women in her home.

According to Utica Police, on April 21 officers responded to a call of a home invasion on Kellogg Avenue. The alleged victim told officers that while she was sleeping a man, identified as 33-year-old Gerard Moerler of East Dominick Street in Rome, entered the house and demanded drugs. The woman said that when she told Moerler that she did not have any, he attacked her with a hunting knife and slashed her arms, causing lacerations.

On Wednesday, Utica Police arrested Moerler in connection with the alleged incident. Moerler is charged with felony first degree burglary, felony criminal possession of a weapon, felony assault, and felony attempted robbery.

No information was given on an arraignment or court date.
