(AP) -- MEDFORD, N.Y. (AP) - Police have released the names of four people shot to death at a pharmacy on New York's Long Island during an apparent robbery.

Suffolk County police say the dead included two employees, a 17-year-old woman and 45-year-old man, and two customers, a 33-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man

The massacre happened Sunday morning inside a family-owned pharmacy in a small cluster of medical offices in Medford, a middle class hamlet about 60 miles east of New York City.

Police rushed to the scene after getting a 911 call from someone in the pharmacy's parking lot. When they arrived, they found the four victims dead.

Investigators believe that a single gunman armed with a handgun was responsible for the shooting. They say he fled the pharmacy carrying a black backpack.
