SYRACUSE -- Update at 10:30 a.m.:

Syracuse police now say a child's toy caused a big scare that brought out the bomb squad overnight at Hancock Airport.

Sgt. Tom Connellan of the Syracuse Police department says the suspicious item reported by a passenger onboard a Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Syracuse was pieces of a child's toy.

Connellan says the battery unit of the toy fell onto the ground and the passenger was briefly alarmed by, what appeared to be, batteries with wires coming out of them.

Syracuse police and the bomb squad did a full investigation, but found no threat. There was no interruption to airport operations.

Original story:

Syracuse Police are investigating two suspicious items that were found on an inbound Delta Airlines flight landing at Hancock International Airport.

Around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, police say a passenger who was getting off the plane told a crew member about the items. That crew member then notified police.

According to police, both the items are small black plastic in nature. They say one item had a black and red wire attached to two "AA" batteries; the other item had a red wire attached to it.

As a precaution, the Emergency Ordinance Disposal Unit (bomb squad) was notified of the incident. They responded and determined the items were non-threatening in nature.

Police are continuing to investigate where the two suspicious items came from. They say there was no disruption of service at Hancock Airport.
