WESTCHESTER CO. -- An Oswego County woman serving time in state prison for killing her husband has died.
The New York State Department of Correctional Services confirms 69-year-old Joyce Malone died Thursday afternoon.
She was serving 10 years in state prison for the shooting death of her husband, 76-year-old Ralph.
Malone was an inmate at the Bedford Correctional Facility in Westchester County since June 7th. She died at the hospital off prison property. Authorities say cancer caused her death.
Back in January, a jury found Malone guilty of manslaughter instead of the original charge of second degree murder.
Jurors found the domestic violence she suffered at the hands of her husband amounted to extreme emotional disturbance.
Ralph Malone worked as an Oswego police officer for eight years, and the couple ran a gun shop for many years.
