NEW BERLIN (AP) -- The maker of Chobani Greek-style yogurt is getting $18 million in tax credits for a planned $90 million expansion of its operations in New Berlin, 50 miles southeast of Syracuse.

Empire State Development Corporation announced Tuesday that it has approved $18 million in federal New Market Tax Credits for Agro Farma's Chenango County plant.

The economic development agency says the move will help preserve 386 jobs and create 450 new full-time permanent positions.

Agro Farma launched the Chobani brand in 2007. The thicker Greek-style yogurt has twice the protein of traditional yogurts, all natural ingredients, and hormone-free milk.

The planned expansion includes acquisition and installation of new machinery and equipment needed to meet consumer demand.
