24 hours after a big storm blew through Cross Lake Park in Cayuga County, people are still talking about the damage it left behind.

"I was really surprised because I didn't think it was that severe but then I started hearing limbs coming down and trees snapping and cracking," said camper Dick Colvin. "It was raining so hard you really couldn't see much outside."

Those high winds are to blame for toppling trees, even pulling some up by the roots. And tossing around boats like toys, powerful gusts blew some of the boats free from the docks in Cross Lake.

"The campers just dove into the water, waded out neck high and grabbed onto the boats tried to bring them back in to shore," said Colvin. "That's one thing about this camp ground they all come together and do what they can to help eachother out."

Now, campers are busy cleaning up mother natures mess and getting the campgrounds back in shape ahead of a big holiday weekend.

Cross Lake was hit hard a few weeks ago as well, when a storm tossed a huge tree trunk on top of the nearby Cross Lake Marina. And in May, much of Cross Lake Park was under water after heavy rains.
