SYRACUSE -- A special liturgy will be held today to celebrate Blessed Mother Marianne Cope.

The former Syracuse nun is on the road to possible Sainthood.

A shrine to Mother Cope is inside Saint Anthony Convent on Court Street. That's also where the ritual will be held at 5 p.m.

Several people taking part in today's liturgy are from Hawaii, where Mother Cope ministered to lepers.

Four kahilis, made by the sisters and volunteers in Hawaii, will be presented in honor of Mother Cope.

Kahilis are feathered standards, carried in procession as a symbol of honor for an individual. The two large kahilis are made up of 10,000 feathers. Each feather is a prayer in honor of the one for whom the kahili is made.
