DEWITT -- DeWitt Police are investigating a tractor trailer that smashed into the railroad bridge along North Midler Avenue Monday morning.

According to officers at the scene, the tractor trailer was carrying a load of unfinished wood flooring that was scheduled to be delivered nearby.  The wreck caused only superficial damage to the bridge, and CSX inspectors were able to reopen the road later in the morning.

John E. Martin from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee was ticketed for allegedly ignoring a traffic control device.  Investigators say there was a sign alerting drivers to the height of the bridge, and determined that was the cause of the crash.

No one was injured in the accident.  A train that was on the bridge at the time of the crash was not impacted either.

This is not the first time a truck has hit a railroad bridge in this area. There have been a handful of crashes on the West Genesee Street bridge near Tipperary Hill, and numerous crashes in the past few years on the Onondaga Lake Parkway, including a fatal bus crash last September. This has led the State DOT to study safety improvements for Parkway bridge. Should the Midler Avenue bridge receive the same scrutiny? Or is this just an isolated incident?
