HENDERSON BAY, JEFFERSON CO. -- Three people are safe following a water rescue in Jefferson County.
It happened around 11:20 p.m. in the area of Henderson Bay. Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies say they got a call about a disabled vessel.
Deputies say a 14 foot Sea Doo Speedster was inoperable and adrift without any means of communication. 36-year-old Jesus Tirado, of Libby Lane in Evans Mills, was able to swim to shore to get help. Two other people, 36-year-old Anna Sieniarecki and 42-year-old Lisa Mahoney, were stuck on board the vessel.
With no specific location to go on and limited visibility due to the nightfall, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Air One helicopter was called in to help. Around 1 a.m., Air One arrived on the scene and within minutes located the vessel and illuminated its position, enabling the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Vessel and Jefferson County S.T.A.R. Team Vessel to quickly respond and rescue the two people stranded on the south side of Horseshoe Island.
No one was hurt.
There have been talks about selling off Onondaga County's Air One helicopter. Do you think this is an example of why it should be saved? Leave your thoughts below.
