CORTLANDVILLE -- Police have made an arrest in the case of a mother and children whose van was rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver last week.

On the morning of July 18, Lisa Duvall of Tully had pulled her minivan off of the road on Route 11 in Homer to attend to a child in the back, when the Chrysler Voyager was struck from behind by a Honda Accord. Police say Duvall had her hazard lights on when her vehicle was hit.

On Tuesday night, Cortland County Sheriff's deputies say they arrested 29-year-old Christopher S. Humphrey, who was charged with four counts of felony second degree assault, one count of felony leaving the scene of an incident, and two counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. Police say Humphrey was the driver of the car that hit Duvall’s van. After the crash, he allegedly got out of his car and fled on foot, leaving the Duvall family and his own passenger Justin Strine behind. All five were hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police say they cannot provide a current status of those who were injured.

Police say more charges are pending against Humphrey. What additonal offenses do you think he should be charged with?

Humprey was arraigned at the Town of Cortlandville Court and remanded to the Cortland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.  He is scheduled to return to Cortlandville Court on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
