FORT DRUM -- A man who lives on Fort Drum has been arrested, accused of improperly touching a young girl on a neighborhood trail.

According to State Police, back on July 15 Troopers arrested 23-year-old John C. Lawrence of Mountain Drive on Fort Drum on charges of sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Police allege Lawrence exposed himself and touched the private parts of an underage girl on a trail in the Crescent Wood neighborhood of the base. Police also say Lawrence frequents the bike trails and the basketball court at Fort Drum and may have solicited other young girls to engage in sexual activity or conduct with him. 

Lawrence was arraigned in the Town of Leray Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. Troopers say he is not a member of the active military, but a dependent of someone who is.
