Otis Blue has been waiting for this day, ever since his grandson was shot and killed in late November of last year.
"I felt very relieved for one thing. But there was no doubt in my mind that they were going to catch them," Otis Blue says.
From one of his barbershop chairs in his South Salina Street store, Blue's Brothers Barber, Otis Blue reflected on his grandson's death.
He says not a day goes by that he doesn't think about Kihary.
"I miss my grandson, I know he can't come back," Blue says. "But you know, I do feel sorry for the young men because they have cut the pleasure of life clean off."
State prosecutors have charged 26 year-old Kahari Smith with Blue's death. Blue was shot and later died from his wounds in a drive-by shooting on I-81 North at the 690 interchange.
Just two days later, 20 month-old Rashaad Walker Jr. was shot to death in what police say was gang retaliation for the Blue shooting. Police say they believe the target was Walker's father. 21 year-old Saquan Evans was charged with murder in that shooting.
But Otis Blue knows no matter many arrests police make, they will not bring his grandson back.
"Now he's gone and all we can do is remember him for what he was. I always think sometimes maybe what he could have been. But he was cut off."
Kahari Smith will be arraigned in city court tomorrow on 2nd degree charges of Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
