LaFayette apple producer is in its 5th generation
It's a busy weekend coming up for Beak & Skiff: On Friday, the LaFayette apple producer opens its u-pick program for the fall, and on Saturday and Sunday they're throwing a community party to celebrate 100 years in business.
Candy Morse, who runs the retail operation, says the party will be family oriented, with entertainment , games and prizes for children, live music and cake-cutting (and eating!) at noon and 3pm both days. That's at the Apple Hill complex on Route 80.
Morse says you can also get a coupon there, for the Rte 20 Winery and Distillery, where they'll be giving adults free samples of apple wine and vodka, and commemorative shot glasses.
Beak and Skiff is now being run by 4th and 5th generation family members of Andrew Beak and George Skiff, who started by planting 100 acres of apples. It's now grown to 350 acres, plus the packing house, wholesale apple and cider operations and a growing retail business, and the vodka distillery.
