GEDDES -- Some Selena Gomez fans did not get the concert experience they were hoping for at the New York State Fair. Regina Reome says she spent about $400 buying a pair VIP tickets, so she could go with her 8-year-old daughter, Jordan Macbeth. She says the tickets were supposed to allow Jordan meet Selena.
However, Reome says when she and Jordan arrived at the Grandstand, the security guards would not allow her to go backstage because she did not have a VIP wristband. Reome says no one ever told her that wristbands were needed.
She says there were no wristbands included with the tickets, and she never received any other information telling her where to get wristbands. At this point, she says she still doesn't know what went wrong, but her daughter is devastated.
"It's very hard," says Reome. "I havent' slept at all because you want to give your children the world, and I had the chance to do that, and it fell short. I'm upset because my baby's hurting, and it's not right. It's not fair."
State Fair Director Dan O'Hara says the situation is unfortunate, but fair security guards have to abide by the artists' security policies to avoid any potential risks. O'Hara says for grandstand shows, the fair provides security, and artists often provide their own security. He says it's a tightly controlled operation.
He says some artists require wristbands, and others require other items to get into the VIP area, like stickers. He says it's a good idea to check any policies before you go to the concerts.
We have tried to contact Ticketmaster to see what their policies are regarding wristbands and distributing them to fans. We have also reached out to the Selena Gomez fan club. We'll post any updates here.
