SYRACUSE -- A multi-million dollar grant will help a local television station grow.

PBS affiliate WCNY in Syracuse will receive $6.6 million from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to help consolidate the broadcast operations of nine public television stations across New York.

The station is building a brand new home on the near west sideof the city, transforming a 56,000 square foot warehouse into state of the art studios, learning center, concert auditorium, café and other amenities.

The facility in Syracuse is expected to save the other stations $25 million dollars in operating costs during the next ten years.

The nine public broadcasting stations using WCNY will each keep full control of their own broadcast schedules.

A statement from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting says the project will serve as a model for stations around the country dealing with a challenging economic environment.
