JOHNSON CITY, BROOME CO. -- A Binghamton-area sporting goods store is throwing in the towel after enduring the second major flood in five years.

The 45,000-square-foot Gander Mountain store in Johnson City says it's closing down after devastating damage from Tropical Storm Lee early in September. A company spokesman says 60 employees are losing their jobs.

Minnesota-based Gander Mountain has 116 stores in 23 states. It bills itself as the nation's largest chain of stores for hunting, fishing, camping and marine products.

The Johnson City store closed for three months after the flood of 2006 filled it with 10 feet of water.

This store is in the same vicinity as the Petco store where dozens of animals died during last month's severe flooding. Petco CEO Jim Myers wrote earlier this week that he is unsure whether that store will reopen for some of the same reasons.
