SALINA -- A deer is blamed for a chain reaction crash on Interstate 81 North Wednesday Night.

It happened around 11:25 p.m. just south of Taft Road in the Town of Salina.

Jared Gilles, 28 of Fulton, was traveling north when he struck a deer as it tried to cross the highway, according to Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies.

Gilles pulled off to the left shoulder, got out of the car, and called for help.

Moments later, his car was struck from behind by Michele Disco, 26, of Central Square, according to investigators. She tried to avoid hitting the deer in the center of the road.

Disco's car spun into the path of a vehicle driven by Charles Paulich, 36, of Fulton, said deputies.

Disco suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Crouse Hospital.

No other injuries were reported, and no tickets were issued.

Traffic was diverted around the accident scene for about 45 minutes.
