FORT DRUM (AP) -- Former New York congressman John McHugh will be back in his old North Country district to attend a change-of-command ceremony at Fort Drum.
The Army secretary will be at the post's Sexton Field Friday morning as Maj. General James Terry relinquishes command to Fort Drum to Maj. Gen. Mark Milley (MIHL'-ee).
The Pentagon announced in August that Terry had been nominated to be promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and to command U.S. troops in Europe
Miley leaves a Pentagon post to return to Fort Drum, where he previously led the 10th Mountain Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan in 2003 and Iraq in 2004.
McHugh served 16 years in Congress before becoming secretary of the Army in 2009. He plans to meet with soldiers during his visit.
