ROMULUS -- The Five Points Corrections Facility in Romulus is on Lockdown.

That's according to a spokesperson for the the NY State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Spokesperson Peter Cutler says on Friday staff discovered illegal contraband in at least two inmate cells. He would not say what type of contraband, saying it's an active investigation. After the discovery, the prison executive team decided to put the facility on lockdown. That means guards go cell by cell and thoroughly inspect all cells. Five Points Corrections Facility is a maximum security prison that has more than 1,300 inmates.

Cutler says the lockdown could take up to five days. All inmates are kept in their cells while this happens. Reports have said some prisoners may have been planning an escape, Cutler says he won't confirm anything until the investigation is finished.
