LIVERPOOL -- A Syracuse woman had quite a scare overnight when she lost control of her car, driving into Onondaga Lake.
It happened around 3:40 a.m. along the Onondaga Lake Parkway.
Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies say 24-year-old Jamie Abear, of 109 Fordham Road, was driving a 200 Chrysler Sebring northwest on the Parkway when she lost control, slamming into the CSX bridge abutment. Deputies say she crossed over the northwest and southwest lanes before driving right into Onondaga Lake.
Abear was able to get out of her car and walk to shore where she flagged down a passing driver. She suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Upstate University Hospital where she's expected to be treated and released. No other cars were involved in the accident.
Divers from the Sheriff's Office Dive Team were called in to help remove the car, which was partially submerged in approximately 4 to 5 feet of frigid cold water.
Deputies say Abear will be charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
