Donald Moore credited with saving 7 lives
Rome Police Officer Donald Moore has picked up another award, and it's a big one: New York State Police Officer of the Year. It was presented, by the Lieutenant Governor, in ceremonies at Rome City Hall. Moore was off-duty on May 27th of last year, and in a cell phone store in New York Mills, when a man opened fire, hitting one employee. Moore fired at the shooter and killed him--it was later determined he had a hit list of AT&T employees. Moore is credited with saving seven lives that day.
More Central New York law enforcers are also being recognized with Certificates of Exceptional Valor:
>Sgt. Todd O'Brien, of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, for rescuing a woman who'd been shot at her Sackets Harbor home on August 4, 2010.
>State Police Sgt. Thoman Haumann and Troopers Carlo Gennario, Jr and Richard Snyder, for the standoff in Vienna on June 22, 2010. A man shot and killed his infant son, but the troopers were able to get the shotgun from him and took him into custody.
