SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse man is under arrest after police say he is responsible for two armed robberies early Sunday morning.
According to Syracuse Police, around 1:10 a.m. two Syracuse residents were walking on Lodi Street when they were allegedly approached by 49-year-old Anthony Jones of Carbon Street. Police say Jones displayed a handgun and demanded money. The victims handed over an unspecified amount of cash, and Jones allegedly took off on foot.
A little more than an hour later, at 2:20 a.m., Jones is accused of entering the Twisted Head Shop on North Salina Street and pointing a gun at employees while demanding money. Police say one of the employees instead pulled out a knife and chased the suspect out of the store. Police say they responded to the scene and arrested Jones after a foot chase and struggle, and Jones was positively identified by the alleged victims.
Jones has been charged with felony robbery, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment Monday in Syracuse City Court. Police say a photo of Jones is not available.
