SYRACUSE -- Two men charged in connection with violent robberies in Syracuse have been indicted by grand jury.
48-year-old Robert Baker, of 28 Stone Court, was indicted on charges of robbery and assault. 43-year-old Howard Underwood, of 151 Bissell Street, was indicted in charges of robbery, attempted assault and assault.
The two men are accused of robbing the Best Dairy and Grocery Store on Court Street back in October.
Detectives say Underwood walked into the store, swung an object at the clerk and demanded money. Deputies a tips jar was taken during the robbery.
The men are also accused of being behind a violent robbery at the Subway on James Street in Eastwood in October.
Investigators say Underwood hit a customer with a metal pipe before taking off with cash. A few hours later police say Underwood busted into the Sunoco on the corner of West Genesee and Geddes Streets on the city's near west side. Detectives say Baker was the getaway driver in those alleged robberies.
