SCRIBA, OSWEGO CO. -- Nine Mile Point Unit 2 remains shut down due to a water leak.

According to Jill Lyon, a spokesperson for Constellation Energy, they are monitoring the situation and there is no threat to the public or employees.

On Friday morning, Nine Mile 2 operators identified an increased level of water leakage in the plant's primary containment system, a steel reinforced containment system with an airtight liner. There was water leaking from the equipment. The area is shut down while they make repairs.

Officials confirm the source of the water leak was from packing on a discharge isolation valve located on a reactor coolant pump. This is the same valve that was worked on during the August shut down. At this hour, officials continue to investigate the exact cause of the leak.

There is no word yet when Unit 2 will start operating again.
