Man shot in neck by father in a raccoon hunting accident

JUNIUS, SENECA CO. -- A Waterloo man was shot in the neck in a hunting accident.

Deputies say Jarrod A. Ticconi, 26, was hunting raccoon with his father Joseph J.Ticconi, 56, and his brother Joseph J. Ticconi II, 31, in a wooded area just west of Bedell Rd, in the Town of Junius.

The three men report that after treeing a raccoon the elder Ticconi attempted to harvest the animal when the gun had a miss fire. He reloaded the rifle and was raising it to take a second attempt at the animal when the gun discharged and stuck Jarrod Ticconi in the neck.

Deputies say Ticconi was treated at the scene flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

He is listed in guarded condition at this time.

An investigation is continuing.
