DEWITT -- Christmas may be over, but for savvy shoppers like Tina St. John, the post-holiday shopping rush has just begun.
"There are tons of good sales. I don't think we should celebrate Christmas until the day after Christmas because the sales are better," she says.
They sure are. Many retailers are offering discounts of 50% or higher.
John Cavanaugh was at the Shoppingtown Mall in DeWitt, Monday, looking for a deal.
"We always come out after the holidays to see if we cant get a better bargain," he says.
The day after Christmas is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The National Retail Federation predicts the number of post holiday shoppers to increase by nearly 60 percent.
Sears store manager Brian Mackenzie says gift cards and deep discounts on Christmas decorations bring a lot of people into the store.
"People now will stock up on Christmas trees, decorations, things like that, 'cause you are going to see 50% off. Plus we have holiday passes that people can really save a lot on and use their gift cards at the same time," he says.
Shoppers are expected to spend more this year as well. The National Retail Federation predicts shoppers will spend more than $469 billion this holiday shopping season.
A season that even after Christmas is still going strong.
