ROME, ONEIDA CO. -- A 23-year-old Rome woman has been arrested for endangering the welfare of a child after her two-year-old son was found walking alone on a city street.
At about 11:30 am on Sunday, Rome Police responded to the 100 block of Fort Stanwix Avenue for a report of an unattended child. When police arrived they found a two-year-old boy wearing only shorts and a shirt, wandering alone in the street. Rome Fire and Ambulance took the child to the hospital for an evaluation.
A half hour later the child's mother was identified as Kayla A. Willis, of the 500 block of North Washington Street. Police say that Willis had left the child at home alone while she went to a local store.
Willis was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and is being held in Rome Police lockup pending arraignment in city court.
The child has been released to other family members.
