SYRACUSE -- A rape trial begins today in a bizarre case that involves a little boy who has been missing for at least three years.

41-year-old Damion Davis is on trial for rape, accused of having sex with an underage girl. That girl, who was 15 at the time, gave birth to Qua'mere Sincere Rogers six years ago. The child, who had been in Davis' custody, has not been seen since November 2008, when he would have been three years old.

In 2009, Syracuse Police received an anonymous tip about the child's disappearance. Davis told investigators that he had given the boy to a man in Brooklyn, and claimed the man was a member of the United Nation of Moors, a religious sect based in Georgia. Davis was charged with abandonment of a child, but the charge was dropped because of credibility issues.

Syracuse Police have followed up on leads and sent investigators to New York City to look for the child without success.

Complicating the rape case is the discovery that Davis isn't Qua'mere's father, according to DNA evidence. As the trial progresses in Onondaga County Court, police hope someone will call them with information that could help them find the boy who would be six years old by now.

Anyone with information is asked to call Syracuse Police at 442-5330.
