SYRACUSE -- As severe winds raced across Central New York on Tuesday evening, something record breaking happened at an iconic buidling in Syracuse.
At the highest point of the Carrier Dome: 164 feet up, the wind sensors recorded the strongest wind gust in the history of The Dome.
Sensors measured a wind gust at 10:40 p.m. at 105 mph. As things calmed down a bit, that reading dropped to an average of between 40 and 70 mph.
CNYcentral Chief Meteorologist Wayne Mahar says, "It is a concern because that type of wind, just like a heavy wet snow in the winter, can damage the roof. That dome can rip, and when you see hurricane force winds this is something that we will monitor closely."
