DEANSBORO, ONEIDA CO. -- A Cassville man was charged with a DWI following a crash in Deansboro that took out road signs and landed a vehicle in a well.

According to Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Jason Harris had been traveling south on Rt. 12B when he went off the right shoulder.

Deputies say Harris, “traveled in the ditch for 1/10 of a mile taking out road signs, launched over a driveway then careened across the road and went onto a lawn owned by Dale Champion. Harris then hit a large cement well in Champions lawn and busted it open.”

When Harris exited his vehicle, deputies say it then fell into the well.

Deputies say Harris fled the scene before they arrived. Lt. McCarthy followed Harris’ footprints in the snow and found him hiding not to far from the crash.

Harris was reportedly soaking wet and very cold. It was only 9 degrees outside at the time, say deputies. Harris only had minor injuries and did not seek treatment.

Harris was charged with DWI, and failure to keep right. Harris is due in the Town of Kirkland Court next month.
