Syracuse Opera's 'Carmina Burana' multi-media presentation is Friday and Sunday (Feb 10 & 12)

You know the tunes:  the music from Carl Orff's 1930s opera Carmina Burana have been in movies (Excalibur, Hunt for Red October, Jackass, G-Force and more), as well as TV (Friends, Glee, The Simpsons) and lots of national product commercials.
The singing will be in the original languages--middle High German, and middle Latin with German pronounciation (thank goodness for projected English titles in the Mulroy Civic Center!)

The opera, which is usually presented as an orchestral concert piece, will be staged in Syracuse using three choruses (two adults' and one childrens') as well as multi-media visuals and live soloists--over a hundred performers, plus live Symphony Syracuse Orchestra.  Catherine Wolff, Syracuse Opera's General and Artistic Director, who will also be singing as part of the chorus, says the production is already drawing interest.  A Messiah-like sing-in of the score drew a big crowd. from all over Upstate NY.
The performances are Friday, Feb. 10 in the evening and Sunday, Feb 12 at Syracuse's Mulroy Civic Center.   Syracuse Opera has tickets (476-7372) and more information, and there are free (to ticket holders) talks on the production an hour before curtain at both performances.
