NEW LEBANON (AP) -- A dispute over high-beam headlights on a rural eastern New York road ends in the arrest of a 32-year-old man on alcohol and drug-related charges.

State police say Timothy Laraway was driving on Route 20 in the Columbia County town of New Lebanon on Saturday evening when he passed another vehicle going in the same direction. Troopers say Laraway then forced the vehicle to stop by blocking its path with his pickup truck.

Police say he approached the other driver, accused him of "high-beaming" him and began to choke the man through his car window. The man's passenger called 911.

Troopers say Laraway late crashed into a utility pole and threw a punch at a trooper.

Laraway is being held in the county jail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
