EAST SYRACUSE-MINOA HIGH SCHOOL -- Two students in the East Syracuse-Minoa district are hoping to win $15,000 for their school.

Chris Steinberger and Matt Pede wrote and filmed a public service announcement and entered it in a contest put on by the company NYCM Insurance.

The challenge was to create a video that would show the dangers of distracted driving.

Steinberger and Pede learned their movie has won either first or second place. That means their school will win $10,000 or $15,000. They can also win additional money if their video is the most "liked" on YouTube.

You can watch the video and like it here.

The students say they were thrilled to learn their video was picked for one of the prizes.

"The first thing I did was give my teacher a high five, like the best high five ever," says Steinberger. "We were really excited. It's a huge deal for us."

"It's crazy," says Pede. "When I found out we were in the top 3 and the top 10, it was ridiculous. Now I'm excited that we're in the top 2."

Steinberger and Pede say they're also happy their video will inform people about the dangers of texting while driving.

The students would like to use the money to improve their student television station. They will find out how much money they'll receive on March 1st.
