LIVERPOOL --

Crews are removing asbestos from Liverpool Elementary and Liverpool Middle Schools over Winter Break.

According to the Superintendent, contractors are working to remove some flooring tile and mastic.

Because asbestos was found in some of the materials, crews will have to wear protective clothing, securing a 25-foot section around the area of removal with red asbestos danger tape, install barriers with two layers of plastic inside the removal area and monitor the air quality.

Air quality tests are expected to come back by Saturday. Students and teachers return to school next week.

If you have health-related questions or concerns, contact elementary school nurse Dina LaValle at (315) 453-0220 or middle school nurse Micki Bliss at (315) 453-1510.

This isn't the first time crews have moved asbestos from Liverpool Middle School. In November 2010, crews removed asbestos found in materials used in the flooring.
