A republican attorney from Manhattan is visiting Syracuse Tuesday to talk about her plans to run for the United States Senate seat currently held by democrat Kirsten Gillibrand. Wendy Long announced her intention to run ten days ago in a letter to republican party chairman across the state. Tuesday she is the invited speaker of Onondaga County republicans at their quarterly luncheon.
Onondaga County Republican Party Chairman Tom Dadey said several other county party chairman will be part of the lunch. Dadey has scheduled a 1:30 pm news conference where he plans to talk about Long's candidacy for U.S. Senate. He is anticipating a discussion with the other party leaders about whether they will back her run against Gillibrand.
In a February 17th letter to party leaders Long described herself as a Reagan republican who will be working to gain the nomination of both the Republican and Conservative parties. Nassau County republican George Maragos is the only other candidate declared to run for the Senate seat.
