LOWVILLE (AP) -- Federal agents say a green card mill operating out of a Lewis County farmhouse provided fake documentation to dozens of illegal immigrants.
Homeland Security agents raided the Lowville home of Moises Velazquez-Jacobo Wednesday and charged him with identification document fraud and misuse of visas, permits and other documents.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carl Eurenius says at least 40 illegal immigrants paid $250 apiece to get a fake Social Security document and a fake green card that they could show to prospective employers.
Eurenius says Velazquez-Jacobo, a Mexican national, was working at a dairy farm in Lowville and renting a house. An informant told federal agents about the fake document mill.
Velazquez-Jacobo is scheduled to appear in federal court in Syracuse Thursday morning.
