Over 40 teams are already signed up for this year's Irish Road Bowling Tournament at Onondaga Lake Park, but there is room for 20 more.

Onondaga County Parks Commissioner Bill Lansley, who has bowled in the past three tournaments, calls it a cross between golf, bocce and bowling.  Teams of four have to roll a two-pound cannon ball--called a bowl-- (imported from West Virginia, where this is a big sport) down two miles of road.  If you hit the grass on the side, you have to roll it again.  The team with the fewest number of throws wins.

Lansley says lots of teams tail gate, and all are invited to an after-tournament party at the nearby Limp Lizard.

It's on Sunday, March 18th (the day after Syracuse's St. Patrick's Parade) and starts at Willow Bay.  Entry information at  www.irishroadbowling.com or the Onondaga County Parks website
