Man arrested for attempted murder of an officer in Seneca Falls

SENECA FALLS -- A man fromĀ Wyckoff, New Jersey was arrested for attempted murder in Seneca Falls.

Seneca Falls Police say they arrested 53-year-old Philip V. Hermida on an arrest warrant issued from the Hawthorne Police Department in New Jersey.

Police say the warrant was issued for the attempted murder of two uniformed Hawthorne police officers while they were standing outside their police cruiser in a parking lot.

It is alleged that Herminda attempted to run over the two officers but struck their police cruiser.

Seneca Falls Police say they received information from the Hawthorne Police Department that Hermida was possibly staying at a local hotel in the Town of Seneca Falls.

Police in Seneca Falls say they located Hermida's in the parking lot at the hotel. Police discovered andĀ arrested him at the hotel.

Herminda was arraigned in the Town of Seneca Falls Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on 'no bail' awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.

Hermida is scheduled to appear in the Seneca County Court on a later date.
