SYRACUSE -- The 30th annual Syracuse Jazz Festival will feature an impressive, eclectic lineup of acts including jazz legend Kenny G.

The event will be held on in June at Jamesville Beach. This is the first year at that location after a conflict arose with the new SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College, which hosted the festival for the last ten years. It attracts tens of thousands of fans each year.

This morning, festival founder Frank Malfitano gathered with Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney and leaders of title sponsor M&T Bank to unveil this year's lineup.

Smooth jazz legend Kenny G will perform at this year's event along with Billy Vera and the Beaters' frontman Billy Vera and his 18-piece All-Star Syracuse Big Band, original Allman Brother's percussionist Jaimoe and his Jasssz Band, Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Gregory Porter, and five-time Austin Music Awards and SXSW Music Awards winners, Mingo Fishtrap.

The event will also feature artists from France (Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Jazz Competition-winner Cyrille Aimée), Brazil (Diego Figueiredo) Austria (Harri Stojka's Hot Club of Vienna) and Scotland (the Iconic Folk-Jazz Legend Donovan). Another major international support act will be announced on April 15th.

"Very few festivals nationwide reach their 30th Anniversary, so this year's Jazz Fest is a huge accomplishment for our entire community, and one that would have been impossible without M&T's support," Malfitano said. "As everyone knows, it's a very difficult time right now for nonprofits, and for major music festivals and cultural institutions in particular."

Malfitano also credits Onondaga County lawmakers, saying the festival would not have happened without their support. "Each of Onondaga County's major branches, from the office of the County Executive, to the ranks of the County Legislature, clearly realize that Jazz Fest serves tens of thousands of County residents annually, while offering residents and regional visitors to the area top name talent free of charge," Malfitano said. "And they further realize that the festival serves not only those who live here, but also simultaneously promotes tourism, which generates a significant amount of economic development for the entire Syracuse region each June."

Jazz Fest will be held Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23 at Jamesville Beach Park. Admission is free.
