The early start to warm weather has been great for growers down south. The wacky weather is creating a farming frenzy this year.

Your favorite fruit grown in parts of North Carolina is making a delicious debut earlier than expected. At Strawberry Hill USA in Spartanburg County, they are already picking strawberries. In fact, it's the first time the sweet seasonal fruit will be available in time for Easter. The berries are picked, packed and put on sale within a matter of minutes. They are actually ten days to two weeks ahead of schedule this year, and they're not alone.

The peaches and blackberries at Strawberry Hill USA are blooming about two weeks ahead of schedule too. Not far away, at Nivens' Apple Farm, the trees are blooming early for the second year in a row. This year, however, there's a different problem. They're experiencing a lack of the necessary chilling hours when the temperatures are below 40 or 42 degrees. "We should have a thousand, twelve-hundred chilling hours by now, but we don't have anything close to that," said Donald Nivens, of Nivens' Apple Farm.

The concern is that the apples will be weak, fall off early or the crop may be smaller than usual. But after doing it since 1974, Nivens is looking on the bright side of the early warmth. He says the baby apples could get conditioned to the hot sun because all the leaves aren't in yet. "We hope to have a good crop, and I think we will this year," Nivens said.

Back at Strawberry Hill USA, they see this as a way of getting you your favorite fruit sooner.
