AUBURN -- Police in Auburn say they arrested William J. Graney, 55, for drunk driving.

Graney is the Auburn city councilor.

According to the Auburn Citizen, police pulled Graney over for failing to use a turn signal .The officer said he smelled alcohol on his breath and Graney refused a blood alcohol test.

Gainey was arraigned in the Town of Fleming Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail in leu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.

Graney appeared in the City of Auburn Court Monday and was released his own recognizance, according to the Auburn Citizen. Graney is scheduled to reappear in court on June 1.

Auburn Corporation Counsel John Rossi says this arrest has no bearing on Graney's position as an elected official. Rossi says a felony conviction will disqualify someone from holding public office, but not a misdemeanor. He calls this misdemeanor arrest "a private matter between Graney and the authorities who issued him the violation."
