It is the most-produced opera in Syracuse, and now Madama Butterfly is set for a repeat performance--but it's not the same old performance.

Syracuse Opera's Cathy Wolff says this year's production has new sets specially designed for Syracuse.  And the cast of singers is new.  But, the classic story of the 'ugly American' who marries the Japanese teen, then abandons her endures, in part because of the music, in part because of the beauty of the opera. Wolff says it's a good 'first opera.'

Madama Butterfly is being staged at Syracuse's Mulroy Civic Center on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, with live music by  Symphony Syracuse, sung in Italian with English titles.  There's a 'backstage pass' pre-performance talk an hour before curtain.  Syracuse Opera has ticket information.
