UTICA -- The Utica fire that left ten homeless Sunday morning is believed to be arson.

Officials say firefighters responded to a fire at 15 Grant Street in Utica at 4:30am. They put out a fire that was in a fire pit in the front yard.

Firefighters then responded to a second fire at 15 Grant Street at 6:40. This time, the front porch and house were on fire.

Police arrested Joanna Calicchia, 44, for second degree arson, a felony.

Investigators determined that Calicchia started the first fire by setting her husband’s clothes on fire.

They also determined that she ignited the second floor front porch fire which then spread into the second floor apartment and attic.

Three adults and four children were in the building at the time of the fire. They all got out safely but are now homeless. The Red Cross was notified and is providing assistance.
