LAFAYETTE -- Fingerprint testing led police to arrest an East Syracuse man for a series of car thefts.

Back on February 7, State Police received a report of a 2000 Dodge Durango stolen from the Lafayette Garage at 2474 State Route 11.

A short time later, they got a report of an abandoned vehicle at the Town of Lafayette Highway Garage. When police responded to the scene, they found a 2004 Chevrolet dump truck that was stolen from DeWitt. At the same time, Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies got a report of a stolen 2001 pickup truck from Rock Cut Road in DeWitt. Troopers later found the abandoned Durango along Rock Cut Road.

Police were able to lift a fingerprint from the car. They sent it to SAFIS (Statewide Automated Fingerprint Identification System), which found the print was a match for 21-year-old Derrick Dano.

Dano is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a felony. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lafayette Court on April 25.
